About Freshwater Cultured Pearls

The Pearl is the only gemstone found inside a living creature, it is a wonder of nature. Freshwater Cultured Pearls are harvested from certain varieties of mussels, a type of mollusk. A tiny bead is surgically implanted inside the mollusk’s shell, and over time it will coat the bead in many layers of natural minerals and proteins. These layers are called nacre. The nacre gives pearls their appearance. The deep, iridescent shine produced by the nacre is referred to as luster.
